Leon, Nicaragua

Crossed the border into Nicaragua and down here at sea level it is much hotter. In the middle of the day one lies in their room sweltering under a fan and moves cautiously from piece of shade to piece of shade when out.
Its a lovely city however full of churches and old colonial buildings. The old scruffy white church is reputedly the largest in CentraL America. Local legend says the locals submitted a plan to the church in the 1700s deliberately downsizing the church so they could sneak approval through. The best part of the church is being able to climb up amongst the bells and onto the roof overlooking the city. Strangely enough one is unsupervised while doing this in spite of the multiple fragile domes. But they did emphasise that if we went up there we were not allowed to ring any of the church bells!
The picture of Romany is her in our hotel room where the very helpful SeƱora encouraged us to soak her to cool her down. Lovely friendly people in this town. And looking forward to meeting Susie's brother Jim tonight who somewhat oddly is here on business for the week.
